The Shimogamo Shrine is located in the triangular area surrounded by the Takano and Kamo river. Although there are mountains of shrine with noble lineages in Kyoto, the Shimogamo Shrine is one of the foremost among the ones that existed prior to the Heian period. Though scores of visitors go there throughout the year to receive matchmaking and all kinds of blessings from the gods, few know that a small ramen cart appears in the vicinity each and every night.

This is all been said in 17 seconds by our nameless protagonist (we call him "Watashi) Bear in mind that if you don’t read very fast, your head will spin.

This is The Tatami Galaxy (or Yojouhan Shinwa Taikei). A story of a young third year college student who looks back at his days in the university. He has two friends: Ozu who causes a lot of mischief in the campus (like sabotaging those who are in a relationship etc.) and Akashi, his cold kouhai who is afraid of moths and is somewhat the object of affection to Watashi.

Onto the story….When Watashi enters college, he expects a "rosy-colored campus life" and be with a "raven-haired woman". But then, everything falls apart considering that  he’s not sociable and eventually, becomes a loner. Until he meets Ozu, who puts him in a lot of trouble due to the mischief he caused. He also meets Akashi, who he considers her a friend. But Higuchi Seitarou (a mysterious dude who keeps hanging around Watashi’s boarding house and knows everything about him) ships him with her and consider it to be match between him and Ozu.

Anyway, the art might turn you off. But hey, the animation is cool and unique. They somewhat mixed real people in too. The OP is awesome with Asian Kung-Fu Generation playing it. The ED is somewhat weird which reminds me of some music video that I’ve seen in MTV.

The problem with this series is that the dialogue is very fast which is why I have to pause for a while to read the subtitles. I guess the sub groups (despite that it’s licensed by Funimation) are having a hard time translating.

Watashi is voiced by Shintarou Asanami. I’m not familiar with his roles but he voiced as Junpei Kousaka in Nyan Koi!. Atashi is voiced by Maaya Sakamoto (Ciel Phantomhive of Kuroshitsuji, Hitomi Kanzaki of the Vision of Escaflowne) which is great to hear her voice again. And Ozu is voiced by Hiroyuki Yoshino (Allelujah Haptism of Gundam 00, Aoi Miyoshi of Senkou no Night Raid). Keiji Fujiwara also voiced as Higuchi Seitarou.
