The background is in the distant future, a post-apocalyptic world after the destruction brought about by Armageddon. The war between humans (Terran) and vampires (Methuselah) continues, as a struggle between two factions: the Vatican and the New Human Empire.
Yet, amidst the bloodshed and violence, many desire a peaceful co-existence between the two species. However, standing between them and this goal is the Rosenkreuz Orden, a group of vampire extremists who manipulate the two sides and pit them against each other. To combat them, the Vatican special operations group “AX,” led by Cardinal Caterina, must use everything they have – even a vampire who preys on the blood of other vampires.
This manga is made before the anime version started and until now, it’s still ongoing. Unlike the anime, the manga is very loyal to the novel and much of the series’ background is expounded here. However, since the novel remains unfinished due to the original author’s untimely death, the manga will just continue until the mangaka tries to figure out how to end it.
The character designs were way different from the anime and novel counterparts. The male characters were given a more feminine and bishonen look while the female characters looked feistier and more mature.
Some of the subplots which are only present in the novel are shown here and gave more development to characters such as Esther, Tres and even the Pope. However, some characters weren’t seen or given development at all such as Noelle and Hugue. But still, this manga is way enjoyable than the anime.
The question is that how long will it keep running.
